Holland International Distribution Council hosts 35th National Distribution Day focused on circularity in logistics
Press releaseZoetermeer, Netherlands – Holland International Distribution Council (HIDC) successfully hosted its 35th National Distribution Day (NDD) at Taets Art and Event Park in Zaandam on 13 November 2024, bringing together over 200 professionals from the logistics sector to explore the theme: “Circularity: Logistics Solutions for a Sustainable Future.”
The event commenced with morning regional visits in the Amsterdam area, offering participants insights into key logistics hubs, including Schiphol Trade Park, a new cargo freight terminal at Schiphol, the Port of Amsterdam, and summer flower grower Marginpar.
The afternoon session was opened by HIDC CEO Remco Buurman, followed by Arthur van Dijk, Commissioner of the King for North Holland, who underscored the importance of maintaining an open dialogue between the logistics sector and the government HIDC Chairwoman Annemarie Jorritsma then addressed the attendees, emphasizing the opportunities that circular solutions bring to the logistics sector and highlighting the role of an efficient and sustainable supply chain as a driver of the circular economy. “The importance of the supply chain is sometimes underestimated. Our economy and society simply cannot function without logistics, and circularity will play an increasingly vital role within it,” said Jorritsma.
Subsequent presentations featured leading companies specializing in sustainable mobile phone production, comprehensive return logistics solutions, and advanced recycling practices, sharing their experiences in implementing circularity.
Participants then engaged in five interactive workshops, delving into circular solutions across various sectors: fashion, electronics, chemicals, real estate and energy. The event concluded with a walking dinner, facilitating further discussions on circularity and networking opportunities.
“The National Distribution Day serves as a pivotal gathering for our members,” stated Remco Buurman. “This year’s focus on circularity underscores its significance in achieving a sustainable supply chain and society. The event showcased exemplary practices demonstrating the tangible benefits of circularity.”
The success of the event was made possible by the generous support of sponsors, including the main sponsors SADC, Amsterdam Airport Area, Amsterdam Logistics, Port of Amsterdam, Schiphol, and Greenport Aalsmeer and other sponsors among the members of HIDC.
